No 6 Exchange Street is a grade II listed fishermans cottage, built in 1787. Tucked nicely between Tides End(!) and Middle Cottage, it is only a few steps from the beach.
The cottage has been in our family since 2016 when we bought it as a weekend bolt hole. However, we found that we loved Deal and the house so much that a few months later we decided to move to Deal and make it (and the cottage) our home.
The cottage itself was sympathetically refurbished in 2016/17 and has a modern kitchen and bathroom, which both have all the ‘mod cons’ you could need/want.
The cottage is over 4 floors:
Basement: This is the dining room, with a table and seating for 4. We have also equipped the room with surround sound and record player in case you fancy dipping back into some good old vinyl.
Kitchen: The Kitchen is rather bijou!, but has all the ‘mod cons’ you’d expect including dishwasher, fridge freezer, oven, coffee machine (for that all important morning fix), but no microwave (as Paul doesn’t like them!)
Living Room: The living room is small but perfectly formed with comfortable sofas, seating 4 people.
Stairs! Making your way up the steep stairs (hold onto the rope handrail!)
Bathroom: There is the lovely bathroom which is well equipped with luxury bath, separate shower and even a heated, demister mirror!
Bedrooms: The top two floors of the house are the bedrooms. Floor 3 is the main bedroom with a king size bed and up in the eaves on floor 4 is bedroom 2 which has two single beds. Note bedroom 2 does not have a door as the stairs lead straight into the room.
To try and help you visualise the layout, here is a simple floor plan of the cottage. From left to right:
